San Diego Union-Tribune: Building a war monument isn’t easy

Andrew Brennan, a young former Army pilot, got the idea while surrounded by bikers.

The Rolling Thunder motorcycle group roared through Albuquerque, New Mexico, while Brennan was there in 2014. Vietnam War veterans swirled around him, on their way to Washington, D.C., on an annual pilgrimage to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.

“I was completely and utterly floored by the camaraderie of that group of veterans. It really begged the question in my mind: What’s my generation of veterans going to ride to?” said Brennan, who flew combat missions in Afghanistan.

Now, Brennan is leading a charge to build a monument to those who served in what’s being called the Global War on Terror.
