Scott DeLuzio

Scott DeLuzio is proud to serve as the Veteran Fellow for the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation. As a combat veteran of the Global War on Terror, he is deeply committed to honoring the service and sacrifices of his generation.

Scott served six years in the Connecticut Army National Guard, enlisting in 2005 and deploying to Afghanistan in 2010 as an infantryman. During his deployment, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Tragically, Scott became a Gold Star Brother when his younger brother, Sergeant Steven DeLuzio of the Vermont Army National Guard, was killed in action while they were both deployed to Afghanistan. Scott’s experiences in combat and the loss of his brother have fueled his passion for veteran advocacy and honoring the legacy of those who served.

After returning home, Scott struggled with PTSD, grief, and the transition to civilian life. Determined to address the mental health challenges facing veterans, he launched the Drive On Podcast, now in its fifth year with over 450 episodes. Through interviews with veterans and civilians, the podcast shares personal triumphs, challenges, and lessons learned, offering hope and strength to the military community. Scott has received heartfelt feedback from listeners who credit the podcast with helping them through difficult times, underscoring its impact on veteran mental health and resilience.

Scott is also the author of Surviving Son: An Afghanistan War Veteran Reveals His Nightmare of Becoming a Gold Star Brother, an autobiographical account of his service and the personal loss of his brother. In addition, Scott has been featured in over 150 interviews on television, radio, and podcasts, sharing his experiences and advocating for veteran causes.

Scott’s dedication to the GWOT Memorial Foundation stems from his visits to war memorials in Washington, D.C., where he reflected on the importance of preserving the stories of those who served. As the grandson of a Navy veteran who served in the Pacific during World War II, including the Battle of Iwo Jima, Scott values the legacy of service and sacrifice. He is honored to contribute to ensuring the GWOT Memorial stands as a lasting tribute to his generation’s contributions and sacrifices.

Scott is originally from Connecticut and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Bryant College. He now resides in Surprise, Arizona, with his wife, Vicki, and their three children.
