Stephen Ross

Stephen Ross attended Virginia Military Institute (VMI) where he graduated in 1983 with a BA in Economics and received his master’s in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas in 1987. He served 4 years in the USAF, mostly at Little Rock AFB, completing that time as a Captain and Missile Launch Crew Commander Instructor. After his time in the military, Stephen returned to Lexington, Virginia, where he served at VMI for 20 years as men’s soccer and swimming coach while being an instructor in the Department of Economics.

In 2007, he became the Director of Athletic Academic Advising, where he supported the NCAA athletes. In 2014, he moved to Richmond and VCU to take on the position of Director of Military Student Services. He and his team oversee all military-affiliated student support, including monitoring, supporting, and overseeing all students utilizing military educational benefits. VCU supports about 1,700 students per year on the GI Bill.

Stephen is married to Kerry Ross, and they spend time traveling, playing tennis, and spoiling their lab, Cali. He is the proud father of Sarah Geisen, married to a Major in the USMC and together they have 4 boys: John, Michael, Andrew, and Daniel; and Captain Drew Ross, USMA 2011, Former Team Leader of ODA 3126, Captain, KIA Nov 27, 2018.
