MEDIA ADVISORY

Who: House Representatives Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Seth Moulton (D-MA) and Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation, representatives of various national veteran service organizations

What: A joint press conference to formally announce H.R. 873, a bipartisan bill co-sponsored by Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA), allowing the establishment of the National Global War on Terrorism Memorial in Washington D.C. The bill designates the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation as the nonprofit organization authorized to fundraise for, construct and maintain a Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, DC. And in order to establish the Memorial, the bill aligns the unique circumstances of the Global War on Terror with the requirements of 1986 Commemorative Works Act.

Where: VFW Washington Office, 200 Maryland Ave., NE, Washington, DC 20002

When: Tuesday, March 28, 2017, 1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Why: The nation’s collective understanding of war has changed dramatically since the law governing military commemorative works was enacted in 1986. This war does not have an official end date and could potentially last for generations. Without the law changing accordingly, this generation of warriors may never see their service, or their fallen brothers- and sisters-in arms, memorialized in the nation’s capital.

Participating Veteran Service Organizations:

Bill Rausch, Got Your 6; MG David Morris (U.S. Army, RET), Green Beret Foundation; Melissa Bryant, IAVA; Student Veterans of AmericaTeam RubiconThe Mission ContinuesAmy Looney, Travis Manion Foundation; VFW; and Wounded Warrior Project.
