Will Our War on Terror Vets See a Memorial Built in Their Lifetime? Yes, If This Vet Gets His Way

29 July 2017

By Benny Johnson

It took 50 years for our nation to build a memorial to the Greatest Generation. In that time, three-fourths of the veterans who fought in that war passed on. World War II veterans saw the memorial in the twilight of their lives, often by wheelchair.

So, what of our generation’s great war? The global war on terror is the longest ongoing war in American history. A 20-something-year-old private who began fighting in Afghanistan in 2001 would be almost middle-aged today. You should meet the young vet who is fighting to ensure that the men who fought in this war don’t have to visit their memorial in a wheelchair.
