Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation Appoints Shannon Slutman to Board of Advisors

Shannon Slutman

Educator Committed to Honoring Global War on Terrorism Heroes

Today the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation announced that Shannon Slutman has joined the Foundation’s Board of Advisors. Dr. Slutman is a Gold Star wife and mother of three daughters. A lifelong educator, Dr. Slutman has helped schools for over twenty years to utilize grants to build rich academic programs and to increase school choice opportunities for families. She is passionate about educating children about the service and sacrifice of our military.

Dr. Slutman’s husband, U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Christopher Slutman, was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2019 while serving as a reservist. SSGT Slutman was also a fifteen-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department.

“Honoring our Global War on Terrorism heroes – including my husband – is a profoundly personal mission for me”

“I am deeply humbled to be joining the Foundation Team,” said Shannon Slutman. “Honoring our Global War on Terrorism heroes – including my husband – is a profoundly personal mission for me and so many other Gold Star families. I look forward to doing all I can to help the Memorial come to fruition on the National Mall, and to educate future generations about the sacrifice of those who served in our nation’s longest war. My hope is that the Memorial will become a place of healing, reflection and remembrance for all impacted by the Global War on Terrorism.”

“Shannon’s leadership and devotion to honor all who have served and sacrificed will be a tremendous asset to our mission,” said Michael “Rod” Rodriguez, President and CEO of the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation. “We look forward to working alongside this servant leader so that together, we may rightfully honor the memory of heroes like her husband on the National Mall.”
